ECOO Education Computing Organization of Ontario

ECOO Education Computing Organization of Ontario X POST WAKELET Hey everyone, Digging through ECOO’s site, I landed on the Online Tools section and instantly felt like a kid in a candy shop. Two tools stood out for me: Digital Citizenship resources: I’ve always been a big believer in teaching kids not just how to use tech but how to use it responsibly. ECOO links well with things like fake news detection and online safety, which feels more important than ever with students learning across devices. AI in Education support series: ECOO has been running sessions about how AI is shifting classrooms, and honestly, that lines up with my own PD focus. I’m experimenting with how tools like ChatGPT can enhance inquiry projects instead of just shortcutting them. To keep myself organized, I pulled a couple of these resources into my Wakelet collections. I already had a set for social studies inquiry lessons, so I added digital citizenship modules there. I also started a ne...

ISTE (International Technology)

Image
ISTE (International Technology) X POST Guiding Principles ISTE.docx https://drive.google.com Hey team, So I went to check out the ISTE Standards community link and of course it’s down right now. Story of my life. When I need it most, it takes a digital vacation. Looking through the ISTE Standards though, I really like how they line up with our OCT chart. The Collaborator and Facilitator parts feel like home to me as an international teacher. Working across cultures, languages, and online platforms has made collaboration second nature. Equity is where the critical lens comes in. The standards sound great on paper, but do all students in my context really have equal access to devices, internet speeds, and digital literacy support? That’s a tougher question. It pushes me to design lessons that can run high-tech or low-tech depending on what students bring to the table. My biggest challenge is the Analyst role. Using data is important but it can also feel overwhelming with s...

TPACK - Holistic Approach to technology-enhanced learning

TPACK - Holistic Approach to technology-enhanced learning X POST Hey Folks, So I tried to do my homework and check out the link for Designing with TPACK but it looks like the site is down. I even switched browsers, trying Chrome and DuckDuckGo, but no luck. If anyone managed to get it open you are officially more tech savvy than me this week. On to TPACK itself. I like how it breaks things into the big three Tech, Pedagogy, and Content and then smooshes them together into that Venn diagram sweet spot. What jumps out for me in an international school context is how equity fits right into the model. If your Tech knowledge is sharp but your students cannot access the devices or Internet consistently then that circle collapses fast. Equity in eLearning is basically making sure every kid has a fair shot at reaching that center space whether that means loaner devices, translation tools, or building lessons that work offline when needed. Learning Theories and Pedagogies and connection to eLearning

Image
1. Review: the timeline I’m using. SEE TIMELINE That interactive learning theories timeline is a handy launchpad for planning blended and online lessons. It rounds up big hitters from behaviourism to constructivism and connectivism, with classroom-friendly blurbs and links you can open while planning. Bookmark it for quick refreshers on things like zpd, scaffolding, dual coding, working memory, and the forgetting curve . I'm also leaning on the research methods handbook when I'm choosing the right approach for online inquiry or action research in my class or staff PD. open, practical, and written for education folks.  Link 2. E xamples that fit my learners I teach across primary to senior and coach adults, so here’s my mix with links I actually use: Primary :   Play-based inquiry in literacy centers that spill into home corners online or in class. SAMR

SAMR:  S ubstitution, A ugmentation, M odification, and R edefinition SOURCE FOR ABOVE PHOTO In education, SAMR stands for Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition. It is a framework created by Dr. Ruben Puentedura that helps educators evaluate how they are integrating technology into their teaching.  ___________________________________ X POST Hey, so I've been digging into this SAMR model stuff, and it's pretty cool how it breaks down tech integration without making it feel overwhelming. Back when I was with the OCSB in Ottawa, we were just starting to push more digital tools in the classroom, and now over here in Taiwan with Common Core, it's all about blending that into e-learning setups. Basically, SAMR stands for Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition, and it's like a ladder for how tech can enhance or totally transform learning, especially online. In an e-learning environment, it starts simple with Substitution, w...
