Online interactive Whiteboards

1. Explore

Microsoft Whiteboard provides a flexible collaboration canvas that integrates well with Teams & supports real-time brainstorming, templates, & classroom engagement. Alternatives include tools like ClickUp Whiteboards, Miro, Conceptboard, Lucidspark, Mural, & Jamboard, each with their own unique strengths such as infinite canvases, mind maps, or voting features. For Apple users, Freeform offers an infinite canvas with Apple Pencil support, integration with FaceTime, & iCloud syncing for smooth cross-device collaboration.

2. YOUTUBE VIDEO

The “Best Whiteboard Software in 2025” video highlights tools that enhance collaboration with endless canvases, real-time contributions, & creative brainstorming features. The apps are presented as useful for educators, businesses, & creative teams, helping to streamline planning & increase engagement.

3. Reflect

I’ve used Jamboard in the past for collaborative brainstorming. It was effective for simple sticky note sharing & quick sketches, but the challenge came from limited integration with non-Google tools & losing work if the session wasn’t saved properly. I’ve also experimented with Miro, which was great for infinite canvases & templates, though some students found it overwhelming at first.

A. Short Activity Idea

Activity: Community Mapping for Social Justice. Students brainstorm local community issues (equity, environment, access) by posting sticky notes & images on a shared virtual whiteboard.

AA. Collaboration Focus

Using a tool like Miro or Freeform, each group adds colour-coded notes about challenges they see in their community. Then they cluster these ideas into themes such as housing, transportation, or education, building a shared visual map.

AAA. Engagement & Learning

This activity engages students by giving them ownership of identifying real issues. It supports learning objectives by combining critical thinking, collaboration, & visual organization, making abstract social justice themes more concrete.

B. Explanation

The activity uses the virtual whiteboard’s drag-and-drop, annotation, & grouping features to enhance collaboration. Learners can see their peers’ contributions in real time, respond to ideas, & connect their perspectives into broader categories. The tool enhances learning by fostering inclusivity, supporting multiple modalities, & encouraging every student to contribute regardless of location.
